Here, is information on how to settle claim dispute issues peacefully and within the effected parties.
As with any public survival server, claim disputes can pop up. It's very difficult to know what to do without making others feel pushed out while also maintaining your space. We understand that these scenarios can be frustrating, it's frustrating for the staff too! So we have put together a guide on the process that should be followed for best results.
On Fairytales, we have a guideline rule for: 'It is recommended you leave roughly 50 blocks of distance between other members' builds/claims.' Staff often look at this on a case-by-case basis as it's not always nice asking someone to move their giant build they've put lots of time into if they miscounted their blocks and just so happen to be 49 blocks away - just as an example. This is a guideline and not a rule. If players make a report about someone being too close to their land, staff will check out the area and deal with the report on a case-by-case basis. We will attend the area and make many observations before coming to a decision. We will either decide that the player can stay or move. Many factors will go into this decision. We are always going to attempt neighbourly behaviour on our public SMP before pushing out.
It's important to note that Fairytales is a public, community server. If you are not comfortable with the idea of player's living around you or near you, this server is not for you. We want to be welcoming to all our players. Work with them and alongside them - not against them. That's not what we are about.
What's the process if someone is too close to my claim and staff have agreed on this?
Reach out to the other player in a kind manner! Staff aren't going to step in on this step. You should attempt to resolve the problem civilly. A lot of our players are really kind and will probably be happy to comply if you ask nicely. Maybe even offer to help them move if they so need it. You can try contact them in the following ways: Whispering them if they are online, leaving signs near their property or sending them a mail in-game. Give them a week to see it and to move as not everyone will be daily players! Please make sure your messages to the player are kind and not demanding. An example you can use is: 'Hi! i live at [coords] and noticed you built less than 50 blocks away, i am not comfortable with this, could you please move your build more that 50 blocks away from mine? :)'
If the person has not answered or moved within 7 days, you're welcome to reach out to staff at this point. Make sure you let staff know that you have attempted step 1. Staff will then hand out a warning to the player for breaking the 50 block rule and they will then get a further 7 days to move their build. (Again, reminder that not everyone is active players so giving a week's notice is necessary).
If the player still hasn't moved 7 days after the staff's warning, feel free to open another ticket and let us know. We believe that 2 weeks notice is sufficient and staff will decide on a case-by-case basis to either remove the build or move it to a further location.
"I feel like staff aren't helping me with my claims issue."
I'll just say it. Claims issues are the worst thing for the staff team to deal with. So please work with us and not against us! They're very stressful scenarios and we never want to feel like we are pushing someone out. We either are hit with disagreements or impatience which isn't cool! So ideally, you should be attempting to resolve the issue civilly or choose to come to an agreement with your neighbour. Claims disputes is often the number 1 thing that leads to staff disrespect so we are often hesitant when these issues are brought to our attention. Just always be kind and patient. Give the player 2 weeks to move and then address us kindly again. We will help, just try to help yourself out first too!
